Description
Jaguar E-type Original UK RHD Series 1 3.8 Roadster from long term storage with 26,241 miles.
We are delighted to present on behalf of a customer this rare find. An original UK RHD 3.8 Series 1 E-type Roadster which has recently come out of long term storage due to a family bereavement. The car is still as it was when it was removed from storage, carrying the 25 years of dust it has accumulated.
The car was registered in July 1964, chassis number 850914, and is therefore one of the very last 3.8 litre E-types. It has remained stored and unused in a garage for the last 25 years. The car has only 26,241 miles on the clock with MOTs back to the early 1970's which corroborate the mileage :
- 19th Jun 1970 : 7,591 miles
- 23rd Sep 1971 : 11,977 miles
- 19th Jun 1975 : 14,779 miles
- 3rd Jun 1977 : 16,523 miles
- 10th Jul 1987 : 21,015 miles
- 24th Aug 1989 : 25,618 miles
The previous owner bought the car in 1977 and it is believed in the 1980s the car was subject to some sympathetic restoration work by the owner, a professional aviation engineer, keeping the car original in all aspects. After the work was complete, the car had little use for the next few years. The car's last tax disc expired in 1990 at which time it entered long term storage with a total of 26,241 miles on the clock.
The current owner has had the car since 1992 and in all that time it has remained unused in storage. Due to a family bereavement, the car is now available for purchase.
The car has come out storage in remarkably good condition. The underneath of the car is in exceptional condition, with no sign of any rust or deterioration due to storage. It is also very clean, so the car obviously went into storage after dry use only.
The bodywork of the car is also exceptional, with no signs of any corrosion, other than some micro-blisters in a couple of isolated areas. There is some rust in the engine bay underneath the brake and clutch fluid, but this is due to contamination from the fluids. There are no dents or any other form of damage to any of the panels which are all perfectly straight.
The paintwork itself is again surprisingly good considering the length of time the car has been in storage. There are areas where the paint has perhaps softened, again perhaps due to contaminants, and small bubbles have formed. These are not rust bubbles, but soft bubbles in the paintwork itself. There are a few scratches on the paintwork on one side, most likely due to items being leant on the car in its time in storage.
The chrome is very good in places with no dents or damage, however there are a few items where the chrome has lifted over time, leaving some surface rust.
Under the bonnet, everything is as it should be and to original spec. The alloy components will need cleaning and polishing, however again the condition looks very original. The car is still positive earth, utilising a dynamo and regulator as it would have been when it left the factory
The interior of the car appears to be original, though the leather seats have been died black from their original red. As this is a late 3.8 series 1 car it has the black central instrument panel rather than the polished chrome.
The car comes complete with a black hard-top. This condition is very good with no damage to the hard top, though the rubbers are perished in places. The headlining is very good apart from one small tear. The black mohair soft-top is also in remarkable as-new condition, and will present very well after cleaning.
As the car is still as-is from storage it does not currently have an MOT and will require some recommissioning before use. The brake system in particular will require a thorough overhall.
This car is one of less than 1000 genuine RHD series 1 3.8 E-types built. There will be very few opportunities in the future to purchase a low-mileage car such as this in such original condition.
The car is sensibly priced to sell. POA.
