Description
This is undoubtedly one of the best examples of an early Reliant Coupe that we have come across. Fitted with the 2.5 litre straight six triple carb engine; this car has been the subject of a full restoration over several years using specialists to produce a very fine example. The car was completely stripped with the body taken off the chassis. The chassis was then subjected to a full overhaul during which the rear suspension mounts were upgraded to the the later type SE4a V6 coupe style trailing arm and watts linkage and the front wishbone mounts were also modified to the later type. Most importantly the chassis was fully galvanized which should provide significant protection against corrosion. The next stage was a complete body refurbishment undertaken and the car was painted to a very high standard by a fiberglass specialist. The 2.5 litre straight six engine car was then treated to a full rebuild by an engine specialist and the carburettors were also rebuilt at the same time. The car was then put back together using a new wiring loom and an alternator upgrade. The interior trim was refitted and a new head lining was installed. The car benefits from a complete stainless steel exhaust system and has correct 72 spoke stainless steel wheels which really set off well against the grey coachwork. The clutch was replaced during the rebuild along with all brake lines. There are useful upgrades such as an alternator, hazard warning lights, electronic ignition, and an improved start motor. The pictures really say it all with this car, if you are seeking a Scimitar Coupe this one is hard to beat given the effort and investment that has been made to bring it up to the standard it is in today. The restoration was completed in 2010 but since then the car has completed less than 3,000 miles.
The history file includes the owner's handbook along with a comprehensive written history of the restoration and various invoices. There are also photographs of the restoration with the car and engine stripped down.
The car starts on the button and drives extremely well. It moves through the gears without issue and pulls well. There is not much to dislike about this Scimitar with a fabulous colour set against the wire wheels, it really looks superb and gets plenty of attention when out.
We strongly recommend viewing this car as they don't offer come to market in such great condition and we expect plenty of interest in this one.
