Description
We have been asked to sell this Ford Escort MK2 Ghia on behalf of a local client. He has owned the car since 1984 and is the third keeper. The car has completed an amazing 274,888 miles since new and is still on its original engine which even today sounds in good order. The mechanics of the car have clearly been well maintained throughout its life. The major issue is corrosion and as the photographs will show the car has significant corrosion in all of the areas where there cars go. The corrosion has been covered with filler and the body is in need of a total restoration. We have taken photographs of the areas around the car which need attention and as you will see it is extensive with a similar story underneath.
The car does run and drive and even has a current MOT which amazingly has no advisories! The interior of the car has been quite well protected during its 270k plus miles with only the rear seat showing damage from the sun. The dashboard is showing some fading but is generally in good condition as are the doors cards apart from some cracking in the driver's interior door handle. The headlining is also in good condition.
This is a car that deserves to be rescued and the current custodian has clearly made a huge effort throughout the car's life to keep it on the road and preserve it as much as possible. The elements have sadly taken their toll on the bodywork and we therefore consider the car to be in need of a full body restoration to maintain its road worthiness and structural integrity.
The history file contains every MOT certificate from 1984 onwards along with an original service book which was stamped up in the early years of the car's life.
If you are seeking a project this is certainly a worthwhile one and for someone with the right skill set there is plenty of opportunity to add value to this car given where Escort MK2 values now stand.
