Description
This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 started life in New York and was imported into the UK in 1990. It was subsequently converted to right hand drive. The car has been in the same family for over 20 years now and in 2015 a major refurbishment of the car was started which has included a full and documented £10,000 engine rebuild by Julian Godfrey Engineering in Heathfield. Further work was carried out on brakes, clutch, new radiator, but then following a bereavement work stopped and the car has since been in storage unfinished. Structurally the car is very sound and the remaining work required will include fitting various bits of interior trim which are either currently loosely fitted or out of the car awaiting fitment. The bodywork has a number of areas where there are minor issues such as some bubbling, marks or dents such as one at the back of the bonnet near to the bulkhead. The panel alignment is very good. The underside is all solid with just minor surface rust in a number of places. The chrome work has a few patches of surface rust. The chrome wire wheels are also showing rust but we believe they could be vastly improved using a specialist form of blasting.
The car starts on the button, runs and drives, but recommissioning will be required before it can be used on the roads given the length of time it has stood.
The history file contains a large number of invoices showing work carried out between 2015 and 2018 and this includes details of the full engine rebuild. There is also a heritage certificate on file which confirms that this is a matching numbers car.
This car does not need a huge amount of work to get it up to a good standard. It is an ideal way into E-Type ownership, particularly for someone who has the skill set to carry out the remaining work themselves and we consider it good value at £37,950.
