This TR6 has lots of potential and provides the perfect basis for a restoration which will be very rewarding for its next custodian. The car has remained in Kent from new and was sold by Caffyns of Tenterden in 1975 to its first owner who retained the car for a good 10 years and during that time the car completed a significant percentage of its total mileage. In many respects this car has almost perfect provenance with a complete history file for its first 10 years which includes the original purchase invoice and every subsequent invoice for work and servicing carried out on the car until 1985 when it had covered around 65,000 miles. After that the car has had much more limited use and has been passed between one family and a family friend. The car has spent much time in storage and has suffered deterioration to the point where it now needs restoration and recommissioning work.

The work required will include fabrication work to the underside where corrosion has taken hold. The paint is poor in places and there is bubbling in various areas. The engine starts and runs albeit roughly and holds good oil pressure,but at the very least will require a thorough recommission before it can be made reliable and roadworthy. This is an overdrive car although the overdrive does not currently function.

Despite the need for work this car does have lots of potential. It is particularly encouraging that the panel gaps are all excellent which is a very good starting point for any restoration and a restored TR6 with superb panel gaps combined with the excellent provenance this car has will make it a very worthwhile investment.

The car was issued with a hard top when new which is still with the car. The history file contains the above mentioned invoices along with the driver's handbook and also the passport to service which is actually fully stamped up to the point where it ran out of space!

For anyone seeking a TR6 which they can add value to this one ticks the boxes and will be a very worthwhile restoration.
