Description
This rather superb Bentley R Type has resided with its last custodian for 8 years. Prior to that it had been owned for 15 years and in fact each keeper appears to have kept the car for a long period of time which accounts for it having had only six keepers in total. What is clear is that each has maintained the upkeep of the car extremely well and that has culminated in the car we offer today which is in exceptional condition. The car has completed relatively few miles in the last 22 years but during that time it has been regularly serviced and any work that has been required has been carried out. Over the last six years work that has been carried out includes new tyres (Nov 21) along with a new heater fan and matrix and a new clock. The radio was refurbed and repaired in 2020 whilst a LED headlight upgrade, along with new flasher units was carried out in 2019. Other miscellaneous works include an overhaul of the carburettors and a new fuel pump in 2016 whilst new front brake cylinders and shoes were fitted in 2015 along with electronic ignition. The car has been annually serviced apart from during the pandemic and the last full service was carried out in March of this year along with a fresh advisory free MOT.
The body work is superb and the only issue of note is some minor blistering on the boot lid which can be easily rectified. The paint finish is excellent and as the photographs will demonstrate the car presents very well indeed. The underside of the car is superb and has been well preserved with no signs of corrosion.
The interior has been refurbished in the past and continues to look fresh apart from some minor wear to the driver's seat. The interior wood and headlining is all excellent.
The car starts on the button and very quickly settles into a very quiet idle as you would expect of a Bentley. This car has the sought-after manual gearbox car and it moves through the gears without issue. The car is also fitted with a sun roof and the tool drawer underneath the dashboard is almost complete.
The history file contains lots of invoices relating to work over the years. There is also a copy of the Bentley delivery/spec sheet from 1953 as well as work notes from Hooper Motor Services who carried out work on the car in 1961. A Bentley R Type handbook is also in the file along with a book which lists all of the chassis and engine numbers confirming that this is a matching numbers car in its original exterior and interior colour scheme.
This is a really exceptional example of a Bentley R Type which has clearly been very well cared for during its life and is well suited to comfortable long distance touring. We strongly recommend viewing.
